Medical Assistant Program Mission and Goals
Mission: To prepare program graduates with the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to obtain employment as entry-level Medical Assistants.
Goal 1: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the professional skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical assistant.
Learning Objective 1.1 - Students will obtain the procedural and interpersonal skills required to work effectively in a medical office setting.
Learning Objective 1.2 - Students will demonstrate the critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to work effectively in a medical office setting.
Goal 2: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the clinical skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical assistant.
Learning Objective 2.1 - Students will perform independent procedures as authorized by the medical provider, such as obtaining vital signs, administering injections, venipunctures, or CLIA-waived tests.
Learning Objective 2.2 - Students will provide pre-operative and post-operative patient education regarding medical conditions or procedures.
Goal 3: Upon program completion, students will be able to demonstrate the communication skills needed to complete a typical day as an entry-level medical assistant.
Learning Objective 3.1 - Students will use proper medical terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms when describing human anatomy, pathology, diagnoses, and procedures.
Learning Objective 3.2 - Students will effectively communicate in a clinical setting while performing patient intake, reviewing medical histories, and relaying information to licensed healthcare providers.

Medical Assistant Program
Externship Disclosures
Students may have to conform to additional requirements to participate in externship at their assigned site, such as:
- Complete a background check.
- Complete a drug screening.
- Travel to a geographically dispersed externship site.
NCC maintains liability insurance that offers coverage for any injuries a student may cause to an employee or patient of a clinical site while on externship. Coverage does not cover self-inflicted injuries sustained by the student.

You can Become a Medical Assistant by enrolling in Northwest Career College's 9-month. You will learn to perform clinical tasks, such as vital signs, injections, sterilization techniques, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, and assisting with in-office surgical procedures. You will also learn administrative tasks, such as using electronic health records and completing referral paperwork. All of these are essential to your success.
It will take you nine months of online and on-campus hands-on learning to graduate from your Medical Assistant program...and then you will become career ready to work in a group practice, hospital setting, long-term care facilities, surgicenter, and more!
Northwest Career College's Medical Assistant program blends outstanding online lectures with exceptional on-campus, hands-on training. Although some institutions may claim to teach Medical Assisting wholly online, nothing replaces hands-on training to get you career ready to work with fellow professionals in a variety of healthcare settings. Although you can learn a lot online, your one-on-one, hands-on learning in class with seasoned instructors provides you with invaluable practice making you the most desirable applicant for any in-office position.
Although NCC does not require students to participate in an EKG Certification exam to graduate from its Medical Assistant diploma program, graduates meet the educational requirements needed to qualify for the Certified EKG Technician exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association.
Entering the medical field with multiple certifications will provide more career opportunities and makes students more marketable in the competitive job market.
After graduation from our Medical Assistant school, you could potentially qualify for a variety of job positions, including but not limited to: Medical Assistant, Medical Office Assistant, Optometric Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant (Back Office), Chiropractor Assistant, Ophthalmic Technician, Clinical Assistant, and Optometric Assistant.
Medical Assistant graduates typically work in a private medical office setting. Students interested in working in a hospital setting should consider enrolling in Northwest Career College’s Healthcare Administration program, as they will be well equipped to pursue an administrative position within a hospital setting.
Northwest Career College encourages Medical Assistant program graduates to apply for transfer credits. However, Northwest Career College cannot guarantee that these credits will be accepted at all institutions. Transfer credit acceptance is determined by the institution accepting the credits for transfer, not the original college of the alumni requesting the transfer credit.
Medical Assistants are mostly found in the clinical setting of the medical field and will handle administrative tasks in addition to patient care. CNAs are mostly found in long-term care facilities and assist nurses with patient care.
